The Houston Texans fired Bobby Slowik earlier this offseason following their loss in the NFL Playoffs. On Monday, the team officially announced his replacement, as NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Los Angeles Rams assistant Nick Caley will be joining the Texans’ staff. Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans selected Caley as the new offensive coordinator, hoping to build on last season’s progress with C.J. Stroud.
Pelissero broke the news of the hire on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Despite having a successful rookie campaign, Stroud faced challenges last year, earning more sacks in 2024 than in his entire 2023 season, which had a negative impact on his performance. Although the team acknowledged that Stroud’s growth could be affected by the coaching change, they remain optimistic that Caley’s arrival will facilitate improvement.
Houston has yet to reach the AFC Championship in its 22-year history. Established in 2002, the Texans have clinched the AFC South title eight times, including last season. However, they acknowledge the challenges ahead, and after a disappointing finish, they are counting on Caley to help address Stroud’s struggles and elevate the team’s performance moving forward.
