Boxers are advised to “protect themselves at all times” during a fight, a rule that also applied to those surrounding the ring during the USBA heavyweight title bout on Sunday between Brandon Moore and Skylar Lacy. With just a minute left in the third round, while the two fighters were tied up, Lacy began to walk Moore back to the corner, resulting in an accidental collision with DAZN’s cameraman, who was capturing the action from that angle.

The cameraman fell but quickly regained his footing to continue filming, which was a relief. Unfortunately, the fight resumed, and things took a turn for the worse as it progressed. As the rounds continued, the event increasingly resembled a chaotic WWE Royal Rumble. This culminated in the eighth round when Lacy, who had already faced three penalties for holding, once again had Moore tied up. They both tumbled out of the ring and crashed through the announcer’s table.
“This fight should have been stopped two rounds ago,” announced Corey Erdman. “How embarrassing is it that this fight has been allowed to continue?” Thankfully, this marked the turning point. As both fighters remained outside the ring, referee Steve Willis began his count. By the time he reached 16, he mercifully called the fight.

In his recap of the event, Forbes’ Trent Reinsmith remarked that “As a co-main event, this fight disappointed.” We certainly agree with that assessment.
