Andrew Perloff would be the first to admit that CBS Sports Radio, now known as Infinity Sports Network, technically poached him. However, his departure from The Dan Patrick Show stemmed not just from career moves but also significant personal reasons. During a recent appearance on the Awful Announcing Podcast with Brandon Contes, Perloff opened up about his challenges, including the commute that was becoming increasingly problematic for him.
Perloff explained, “The only downside with The Dan Patrick Show is the location in Milford, Connecticut, while I live in Brooklyn, New York. After the pandemic, with everyone in New York having a car, my two-hour commute started causing immense pressure. I loved being part of The Dan Patrick Show and had no intentions to leave. However, when the opportunity came along with Maggie [Gray], it just aligned with my life situation.” Perloff believes that had he approached Dan Patrick to discuss a hybrid role, Patrick would have been open to it. “He was always great to work for,” said Perloff.
Initially, when he joined Patrick’s team, he was still at Sports Illustrated and participated in the show remotely. Over time, as the radio show expanded onto DirecTV, Perloff became a more integral part of the team and began commuting in person, which lasted for an impressive 11 years.
Perloff did share that the situation with Maggie Gray arose at a perfect time in his career, particularly when she needed a co-host after her initial pairing with Bart Scott and Chris Carlin shifted following Mike Francesa’s return to WFAN. This collective series of events contributed to his decision to move on.
Ultimately, his commute is now a bit shorter, which has undoubtedly made life easier.
