Donald Trump Declines to Visit Plane Crash Site: ‘Do You Expect Me to Go Swimming?’

Former President Donald Trump at Formula One Grand Prix

On Wednesday night, a passenger airliner carrying 60 travelers and a crew of four was approaching Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport when it tragically collided mid-air with a military Blackhawk helicopter, resulting in the loss of all lives on both aircraft, including 14 U.S. figure skaters. Despite this devastating incident, former President Donald Trump indicated he has no intention of visiting the site of the crash. “Not the site. You tell me, what’s the site? The water? Want me to go swimming?” Trump asked.

When a reporter explained that she meant visiting with first responders in the area, Trump remained firm in his decision not to go there. However, he does plan to meet with the families of the victims, having originally stated an intention to meet the victims themselves before presumably realizing there were no survivors. “I don’t have a plan to do that,” Trump said. “But I will be meeting with some people that were very badly hurt – well, their family member, obviously. But I will be meeting with some of the families.”

Among the victims were six members of The Skating Club of Boston. CEO Doug Zeghibe announced at a press conference on Thursday, Jan. 30, that the deceased include two teens, Spencer Lane and Jinna Han, and their mothers, Molly Lane and Jin Han, as well as the team’s coaches, 1994 World Champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov.
