On Thursday, Austin Carr, a prominent figure associated with the Cleveland Cavaliers, took to social media to celebrate the selection of Darius Garland and Evan Mobley to the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, adding to Donovan Mitchell’s earlier announcement as a starter. This brings the total number of Cavs players set to represent the team in San Francisco next month to three. However, Carr’s congratulatory post on X also included a curious hashtag.
In his post, he stated: “Cavs have three all star, congrats, well deserved GO CAVS,” followed by “#ImpeachTrumpNOW.”

This unexpected political turn garnered mixed reactions. Supporters and detractors alike expressed surprise at Carr’s choice to link a basketball celebration with a political statement, especially given the current spotlight on President Trump following his controversial remarks about DEI hiring practices related to a tragic plane and helicopter crash in Washington D.C. on Wednesday night.
However, those familiar with Carr’s social media persona likely weren’t entirely caught off guard. While the No. 1 pick of the 1971 NBA Draft does not regularly criticize Trump, his social media presence often reflects the quirks typical of a 76-year-old navigating the platform.

After about an hour, Carr deleted his post before the Cavs’ 137-115 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. He later clarified that the hashtag was unintentional, stating: “Need help using my phone, note to self – double check hashtags before posting Go Cavs.”

P.R. crisis averted. Go Cavs, indeed.
