In his inaugural season in the Fox broadcast booth, Tom Brady has faced a level of criticism typically reserved for first-year broadcasters. However, his former teammate and current Fox colleague Julian Edelman believes the seven-time Super Bowl champion will excel when it matters most. Ahead of the Super Bowl LIX broadcast on Fox, where Brady will join Kevin Burkhardt in the commentary booth, Edelman shared his expectations for his longtime friend during the big game.
During an appearance on Fox & Friends Tuesday morning, Edelman emphasized Brady’s extensive experience in mentally preparing for Super Bowls throughout his playing career. “I guarantee he’s probably going to be very fired up,” Edelman said. “He’s probably going to be imagining himself in those situations. I think it’s going to be a great performance by him because he’s gonna get to show us inside looks to things only he knows Patrick Mahomes is going through.” With his participation in ten Super Bowls, Brady certainly stands out as someone who can provide valuable insights into the preparations and mindsets of both Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes, perhaps even more so than any other broadcaster.
However, a recurring question throughout Brady’s debut season in the booth has been whether he can effectively convey his insights to casual viewers in a relatable manner. Complicating matters is Brady’s status as a part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, which restricts his interaction with teams before the game. Due to his ownership stake, Brady has been barred from meeting with teams ahead of the game, a crucial aspect of broadcasters’ preparation.
Interestingly, Brady isn’t the only new face on Fox’s Super Bowl coverage team. Edelman is also gearing up for his first year in this capacity. For the sake of Fox’s broadcast of the Big Game, fans hope both Brady and Edelman can rise to the occasion just as they did during their playing days.
