Despite earlier speculation, the Minnesota Twins have decided to continue operating under the MLB’s umbrella for their local media rights. While there were rumors about the club potentially returning to the FanDuel Sports Network, akin to the Cincinnati Reds’ recent move, the Twins will maintain their original strategy of having the league produce and distribute their games. This new partnership allows fans to purchase a monthly or annual subscription to stream games on Twins.TV without facing any blackouts.
According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, the elimination of blackouts is expected to enhance the Twins’ reach by an estimated 307%, allowing access in additional markets such as North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Like other teams leveraging the league for production and distribution, the streaming service will be priced at $19.99 per month or $99.99 for the entire season. Fans can also opt for a season plan that includes broadcasts of all other Major League games, similar to MLB Extra Innings.
Currently, the team has not disclosed how games will be accessible through traditional satellite or cable subscriptions. However, MLB has stated, “Twins.TV will be available on similar satellite and cable providers in which Twins Baseball has been carried in the past. Specific providers will be announced later this offseason.” Subscriptions for Twins.TV will begin on February 11th.
