The Buffalo Bills suffered a defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday night, extending the postseason challenges for head coach Sean McDermott without a Super Bowl appearance. Nevertheless, quarterback Josh Allen remains steadfast in his belief that McDermott is the right coach for the job, stating during his Monday press conference that he is “extremely confident” in McDermott’s ability to ultimately guide the team to a Super Bowl championship.
“This is gonna sound weird, I’m just so proud of coach,” Allen expressed according to Pro Football Talk. “I don’t know why he’s not recognized more in the awards stuff. That’s the cruddy thing about it. But time in and time out, he’s got us in position. . . . We’re fighting to get over that hump, and he gives his life to this. He’s so committed to doing whatever it takes.” The Bills have secured five consecutive division titles and have consistently been seen as legitimate Super Bowl contenders, yet they have struggled to surpass the Chiefs in the playoffs.
Sunday night’s loss marked the fourth consecutive playoff defeat against the Chiefs, with Allen and McDermott yet to capture a single playoff victory against them during their tenure. Clearly, the outcomes have not aligned with the Bills’ aspirations, but Allen’s confidence in his head coach remains unwavering.
