Damien Woody Draws Parallels Between Patrick Mahomes and Tiger Woods

Patrick Mahomes has earned comparisons to the legendary Tom Brady, having secured three Super Bowls in just eight NFL seasons. However, following the Chiefs’ victory over the Buffalo Bills, ESPN NFL analyst Damien Woody drew a different parallel, likening Mahomes to one of the greatest golfers, Tiger Woods. Known for his iconic red polo on Sundays when in contention, Woods has left a lasting impression on sports fans for nearly three decades.

On the Monday edition of Get Up, Woody praised Mahomes’ composure under pressure, stating, “You know, I’m just watching the game, and I’m thinking to myself, Patrick Mahomes is like Tiger Woods on Sunday wearing that red polo. In that moment, with Tiger on Sunday and you are in that group, you feel his presence. You know he is coming. When it’s time to make that critical putt or pitch, he is going to make it. His competitors get tight because they know Tiger is not going to falter; he is going to make the right play. That’s what we’re seeing from Patrick Mahomes right now.”

If anyone deserves to be compared to Tiger Woods, it’s Patrick Mahomes. Amid swirling speculation about a “fixed” postseason run for the Chiefs or claims of biased officiating, Mahomes has maintained focus and delivered when it counts. Consistently, he has thwarted elite quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen from reaching greatness, much as Woods did with top golfers of his time. We will soon see if Mahomes can continue this trend against Jalen Hurts and the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX— a rematch from the Chiefs’ triumph over Hurts and the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII just two years prior.
