The Cleveland Browns are coming off a disappointing 2024 campaign, having entered the season with hopes of competing with the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens for AFC North supremacy. Instead, the Browns finished with a dismal record of 3-14, securing the second overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft. While the defense regressed from last year’s strong performance, the primary issue for Cleveland this season was the inadequate play at quarterback.
The Browns cycled through four different starters this year, none of whom were able to perform effectively. Deshaun Watson was the primary quarterback for the majority of the season, but he struggled significantly and was arguably the worst starter in the league before suffering an Achilles injury that ended his season. Following Watson’s departure, Jameis Winston took over but failed to secure the job due to his inability to protect the ball from turnovers. By the end of the season, Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Bailey Zappe were given starts, but they too faced challenges in the role.
Adding to the turmoil, quarterbacks coach Ashton Grants left to join the New England Patriots, prompting the Browns to seek new leadership for the quarterback position. “Browns are moving veteran coach Bill Musgrave to QB coach, sources tell The Insiders. Musgrave has served as a senior offensive assistant on Kevin Stefanski’s coaching staff the last two seasons,” reported Mike Garafolo on Tuesday.

It will be intriguing to see how the quarterback unit develops under this new leadership.
