Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is widely regarded as one of the league’s most accomplished quarterbacks. However, NFL player Cameron Heyward believes that Mahomes benefits significantly from favorable calls made by referees. During a recent episode of his “Not Just Football” podcast, Heyward expressed his views on the issue, stating, “Yeah, Mahomes is going to get calls. He’s been an MVP in our game and he sells tickets. As a defense, you know you’re under a microscope when you play him. The second they think it’s questionable, it’s probably getting thrown.”
Moreover, Heyward pointed out that Mahomes not only receives special treatment but also excels at drawing penalties through his performance on the field. “He sells with the best of them,” Heyward commented, likening him to masters of dramatics like Bruce Bowen and Manu Ginobili with their penchant for flopping and exaggerating contact.
Despite these criticisms, Mahomes’ achievements remain impressive; he has secured three Super Bowl titles before reaching 30 years of age—an accomplishment matched only by Tom Brady. Should Mahomes lead the Chiefs to victory against the Philadelphia Eagles this week, he will clinch his fourth Super Bowl title, positioning him to potentially surpass Brady’s record of seven in his career.
It remains to be seen if Mahomes can achieve this feat, and whether he will receive any assistance from officials throughout the game.
