A DJ from a women’s college basketball team has been suspended following an inappropriate song selection during a game. On Friday evening, the South Carolina Gamecocks achieved victory against the LSU Tigers in one of the season’s most prominent women’s basketball matchups. However, a poor song selection from South Carolina’s DJ during the event sparked significant backlash and resulted in his suspension.
LSU’s team features star guard Flau’jae Johnson, whose father, rapper “Camoflauge,” passed away six months before her birth in 2003. Despite this, South Carolina’s in-house DJ, DJ T.O., chose to play a track by her late father during the game, which understandably upset Johnson.
Johnson expressed her dissatisfaction on social media, stating, “I’ll take my L on the chin, but this just nasty behavior. Nun funny bout that.” Following the incident, the Gamecocks announced DJ T.O.’s suspension, prompting him to issue a public apology.
In his apology, he stated, “I apologize for playing Cut Friends Instrumental at the game yesterday.” He further emphasized, “It is never my intent to disrespect or offend anyone when my job is to have fun and ensure others enjoy themselves.” He noted that he had played the song for years, including at other games, and that he had always done so with good intentions. “I can’t control how anyone takes it but I can take responsibility & apologize,” he added.
Regardless of intent, the result remains the same—he has been suspended.
