Steelers Owner Confirms Fields and Wilson Won’t Return to the Team

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in search of solutions as their season takes a turn. Initially, they appeared to be strong Super Bowl contenders with a revitalized offense led by veteran quarterback Russell Wilson and a solid defense. However, as they faced tougher opponents later in the season, the team’s performance faltered. Wilson’s production declined drastically, hindered by a struggling offensive line, resulting in a four-game losing streak that wrapped up the regular season.

Amidst this turmoil, many fans advocated for a change at quarterback, urging the team to start younger option Justin Fields, who had led the team to a 4-2 record while Wilson recovered from a calf injury. Ultimately, the Steelers chose to remain with Wilson, but this decision backfired as they suffered a fifth consecutive loss to their rival Baltimore Ravens, 29-14, in the Wild Card round, bringing their season to a disappointing end.

In a media session on Monday, team owner Art Rooney II candidly addressed the quarterback situation. “The QB position is a key, key piece of the puzzle that needs to be addressed,” he stated, emphasizing that it is unlikely both Fields and Wilson would be re-signed, as reported by Bob Labriola.

The announcement led to various reactions on social media, with fans expressing their preferences regarding the quarterback situation. Comments ranged from, “Good, sign Fields,” to thoughts like, “This situation screams Aaron Rodgers as a one-year punt.” Others voiced their desire for Fields, with suggestions such as, “Hope we get Fields back,” while some were critical of Wilson, asking, “Cool, so we know Russ sucks and we don’t want him right?”

It will be intriguing to see what direction Pittsburgh takes regarding their quarterback lineup as they consider who can best lead the franchise moving forward.
