The Ohio State Buckeyes clinched the National Championship this year, largely thanks to quarterback Will Howard, who joined the university after transferring from Kansas State. Looking ahead, don’t anticipate the Buckeyes to seek a new starting quarterback from the transfer portal for 2025, according to head coach Ryan Day. While the team has successfully utilized the portal in the past, Day emphasized that the next quarterback will come from within the existing roster.
During an appearance on 97.1 The Fan WBNS-FM, Day confirmed that Ohio State will rely on a quarterback already part of the program for the 2025 season. He stated, “These guys are going to compete their tail off. We have some good quarterbacks in the system, and I shared with all of them that this week leading up to the national championship game was an opportunity to observe and learn. You need to really utilize that.” Day further noted the importance of leadership qualities in a quarterback, urging the players, “When you guys come back in about two weeks, you gotta look different, you gotta walk different, you gotta act different, because now you’re fighting to become the starting quarterback at Ohio State. We have some really talented guys in that room, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the competition brings,” as per On3.
It’s likely that Alabama transfer Julian Sayin will have an advantage going into camp, but the situation will unfold as the competition progresses in Columbus. Ohio State will face significant expectations once again in 2025; however, for Buckeye fans, it seems the pressure on their head coach is no longer strictly ‘title or bust.’
