Donald Trump won the 2024 United States presidential election against Kamala Harris by a significant margin, securing both the popular vote and the electoral college. This victory came after his previous win over Hillary Clinton in 2016. The embarrassing defeat has not only affected Harris’s standing but is also causing her to lose support from her initial voters, including notable figures like ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.
In a recent appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher, Smith expressed his views regarding his November vote, stating, “Kamala Harris, who didn’t resonate during the primaries in 2020, couldn’t even get to Iowa, suddenly is the Democratic nominee. Then you roll up to the convention in Chicago and everybody is like ‘She’s a rockstar!’ So it’s like ‘How’d that happen?’ Yes, I voted for her—many did—but ultimately, we feel like [expletive] fools for supporting her, falling for the okiedoke as they say. If there had been a primary, it’s likely she would not have been the Democratic nominee.”
Fans reacted to Smith’s candid remarks on social media, with one Twitter user commenting, “It makes us all stronger when we do as we choose, not what they say we should do.” Another fan noted, “(Stephen A. Smith) is not a conservative, Republican, MAGA or any label like that. He is simply honest, telling a hard truth and offering Democrats insight into where they went wrong. Will they listen? Probably not.” A third user added, “There’s at least someone who’s honest. I bet there are many more coming around.” It will be intriguing to see if the Democrats adapt their strategy following this defeat.
