The Kansas City Chiefs triumphed over the Houston Texans in the NFL playoffs’ divisional round last weekend, but two players faced league sanctions for rule violations during the game. According to Athlon Sports, defensive backs Justin Reid and Bryan Cook received significant fines—Reid with $14,069 for unsportsmanlike conduct and Cook $8,443 for unnecessary roughness from a hip-drop tackle against Houston.
Despite these fines, the Texans were not penalized for two contentious hits on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. In the first quarter, Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. was flagged for roughing the passer, while defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi and linebacker Henry To’oTo’o were called for hitting Mahomes as he slid late. However, the NFL ruled that these incidents did not warrant fines.
The Chiefs will face off against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, aiming for a spot in the Super Bowl for the third consecutive season. It remains to be seen if they can maintain discipline and avoid further costly penalties.
