Chicago Bears fans are buzzing with excitement about the organization’s future following the hiring of Ben Johnson as their new head coach. Already, Johnson appears to have a strategic plan to enhance the coaching staff by considering candidates with significant collegiate experience. The Bears previously interviewed former Stanford head coach David Shaw as a potential candidate for the head coaching position, but they ultimately decided to pursue Johnson.
However, this doesn’t rule out the possibility of Shaw joining the Bears in a different capacity. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears have interviewed Shaw for the offensive coordinator position, which would allow him to work alongside Johnson.

Shaw is well-known for his 12 seasons as the head coach at Stanford, where, despite ending on a low note with two consecutive losing seasons, he achieved notable success, including two Rose Bowl victories within four years. Adding someone with Shaw’s experience in mentoring quarterbacks, alongside Johnson, who is praised as a prominent quarterback guru, could significantly benefit Caleb Williams as he approaches his second season.
While it remains uncertain if Shaw will secure the offensive coordinator position, the fact that the Bears previously considered him for head coach suggests they hold him in high regard, making his potential arrival even more likely.
