Chris Russo has reached his limit with the Kansas City Chiefs. You might say the ‘Mad Dog’ is officially “Chief’d out.” However, while that sentiment is gaining traction in the sports media landscape, it hasn’t resonated with Booger McFarland.
When Dan Patrick asked McFarland on The Dan Patrick Show if he felt “Chief’d out,” his response was unexpected. “No, I never get Chief’d out,” McFarland stated on Friday. “As a competitor, every year is different. To say I’m Chief’d out implies I’m not rooting for the best teams. Each time you take the field, it has to be earned. The Chiefs have secured back-to-back Super Bowls, and if they reach a third, they will have earned it.”

McFarland also addressed whether he believes the Chiefs benefit from favorable calls: “Um, I think the home team is always going to get favorable calls,” the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle explained. “The Chiefs have largely played at home, except for one playoff run. The crowd’s influence on the officials is significant; imagine Patrick Mahomes running down the sideline, and there’s a questionable hit. Everyone is going to shout, ‘Throw the flag.’” He continued, “It requires an official with considerable temperament not to be swayed by 70,000 fans and coaches in that moment, so the home team—especially on their own sideline—often gets the benefit of the doubt.”
While many in the sports media might express being “Chief’d out,” McFarland holds a different perspective. He maintains that in a league where nothing is guaranteed, the Chiefs’ continued success is earned, and if they gain a home-field advantage along the way, it’s simply part of the game.
