Ohio State Buckeyes star freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has reportedly received substantial offers to enter the transfer portal after playing a pivotal role in the Buckeyes’ national title victory. Emerging as one of the nation’s top wide receivers, particularly in the latter half of his first college football season, other teams are eager to lure him away with significant financial incentives.
According to college football insider Pete Nakos of On3, Smith has received offers ranging from $4.5 million to $5 million to transfer to another program. However, Nakos reported that Ohio State “is ready to do whatever it needs to hold onto Smith,” and it appears that Smith is inclined to remain loyal to the Buckeyes.
In light of the lucrative offers, Jay Wimbrow of the South Florida Express, the 7-on-7 team on which Smith played during high school, expressed his confidence on social media that Smith would stay with Ohio State. “Ain’t gonna happen, that family is too loyal. Good try tho,” Wimbrow posted on X. Smith echoed Wimbrow’s sentiment by re-posting the message and adding a 100 emoji, indicating his determination to stay at Ohio State. This decision sparked a flurry of reactions on social media.
One person wrote on X, “People seem to forget who coaches WR. [Brian Hartline] is hands down the best wide receivers coach in the country. His ability to recruit, develop, and elevate elite talent is unmatched. His bond with players like Jeremiah is built on trust, mentorship, and greatness.” Another fan chimed in, “Thank you, Jeremiah! We love you! Go Bucks!” while someone else remarked, “I was never worried. You’re smart and know what your future looks like. Better to stay at OSU, win some more rings, and continue to learn from the best in the business.” Another enthusiastic comment declared, “Jeremiah is going to be the greatest WR of all time. But he’s more than that. This man is loyal, hardworking, and he is no sellout. Go Bucks!” and a fan expressed sheer joy, saying, “Just fell to my knees in celebration at work.”
Given Smith’s remarkable talent, it’s unsurprising that other programs are vying for him, but all indications suggest he plans to remain in Columbus.
