Justin Shackil has announced his departure from the New York Yankees radio broadcast this season after sharing play-by-play duties last year. He joined the Yankees radio broadcast on WFAN in 2023 as the pre and postgame host and a fill-in play-by-play voice. Following John Sterling’s retirement announcement in April, Shackil stepped into a larger play-by-play role alongside Emmanuel Berbari, with Brendan Burke, Ricky Ricardo, Ryan Ruocco, and Craig Carton also contributing to the rotation for Yankees games on WFAN.
The decision to leave was Shackil’s, as he revealed in a social media post on Thursday evening, indicating his desire to focus on his television work in the future.

Shackil expressed, “As the 2025 Yankees season approaches, I want to share that I will no longer host postgame coverage on Yankees radio broadcasts. I loved being able to talk to our audience almost every day, but it is a position that rightfully requires a constant presence, and at this point, is something I could not provide. Moving forward, I am going to focus more on my TV work in baseball and boxing. You’ll still see me on YES Network in a variety of roles during the season.” In addition to his WFAN work, Shackil has also served as a backup studio host and gameday reporter for the Yankees on YES.
“Thank you to the Yankees and WFAN for giving me one of the best seats in the house the last few seasons,” he added. “I am proud of the work we did, but I am also looking forward to what lies ahead.”
While Shackil was a primary radio voice last season, he missed the chance to call a game during the team’s World Series run, as Sterling temporarily resumed his role for the playoffs. Dave Sims has since been named Sterling’s permanent successor in the Yankees radio booth.
