As Will Compton and Taylor Lewan announced their upcoming exit from Barstool Sports, they revealed they received an offer from a sponsor that was simply irresistible. According to Front Office Sports’ Ryan Glasspiegel, the popular podcast, Bussin’ with the Boys, is going independent thanks to a substantial new sponsorship deal with FanDuel. Glasspiegel noted that “the deal was quite lavish.”
This news follows weeks of speculation about the podcast’s future, a situation that has been publicly discussed on Barstool Sports’ platforms. Recently, Barstool founder Dave Portnoy confirmed the podcast’s move, despite his attempts to retain them, which he described as his “most aggressive move to keep them.” He stated, “They got an offer that was so big, it’s like I can’t [match],” during The Unnamed Show.
On this week’s episode of the podcast, Compton and Lewan discussed their decision, emphasizing that they would have preferred to stay at Barstool. Ultimately, however, the offer was too significant to turn down, even after they expressed a willingness to accept a “hometown discount” to remain within Portnoy’s fold. “We love being a part of the ecosystem. We love the guys there, the camaraderie, the locker room vibes,” Lewan stated. He continued, “Barstool is truly a company — as Dave said on The Unnamed Show — people don’t want to leave Barstool for a reason. We have, for whatever reason, positioned ourselves so that other sponsors want to be part of Bussin’ With the Boys in a big way.”
Despite some speculation on social media suggesting that Compton and Lewan might join Underdog Fantasy’s roster, it appears that’s not the route they’re taking. According to Glasspiegel, the duo owns BWTB‘s intellectual property, allowing them to keep their current YouTube channel and RSS podcast feeds as they embark on this new venture.
