Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal might be reuniting for a Super Bowl LIX commercial paying tribute to When Harry Met Sally. On Wednesday, the duo shared a photo of themselves seated on a couch, reminiscent of the “couples interviews” segment from their iconic 1989 film, known for defining the modern rom-com. “It’s finally happening, we’re reuniting for something iconic. Can’t wait to show you all soon,” Ryan announced.
With Super Bowl LIX approaching and companies revealing their Super Bowl commercials, it’s likely that Ryan and Crystal will star in a When Harry Met Sally-themed advertisement. Ryan could promote a sequel, a series adaptation, or another project, but the consensus leans towards a Super Bowl spot.
When Harry Met Sally has garnered several awards and is fondly remembered for the famous restaurant scene, where Ryan demonstrates to Crystal how women can, let’s say, fake intimacy. In a 2023 interview with Interview magazine, Ryan revealed that her children are embarrassed by this scene. Ryan’s son mentioned visiting Katz’s Deli, the New York venue where the iconic moment was filmed, and discovered a sign pointing to the table where the scene took place. If Ryan intends to recreate that iconic moment during the Super Bowl, she’ll need to move quickly, as the ad will only be 30 or 60 seconds long, leaving limited time for any elaborate setups.
Fox is reportedly charging $7 million for each 30-second spot during the game, with inventory fully sold out since last fall.
