ESPN’s College GameDay was scheduled to broadcast live from the highly-anticipated SEC women’s basketball matchup between the LSU Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks. However, inclement weather has caused a schedule change, leading to the cancellation of the pregame show.
Due to winter weather in the area, the game has been rescheduled from Thursday to Friday at 5 p.m. While there were expectations that the College GameDay show would shift along with the game, ESPN announced on Wednesday that it would not proceed as planned.
“Due to inclement weather postponing the game day and time between LSU and South Carolina, the first women’s ‘College GameDay’ show of the season – planned for Thursday, Jan. 23 in Columbia, S.C. – will be canceled,” ESPN stated in a statement. “Future show information will be announced in the coming weeks.”
This game is one of the most high-profile women’s basketball showdowns of the year, with No. 2 South Carolina holding an 18-1 record and LSU undefeated at 20-0, aiming to pull off an upset. This was set to be the first women’s basketball broadcast of the season for College GameDay. It remains to be seen whether the network will select another women’s basketball game to cover later in the season.
