The New York Jets have made it official: Aaron Glenn, the former Jet great and Detroit Lions defensive coordinator, has signed on to become the franchise’s next head coach. The announcement culminates a busy coaching search, which saw a number of candidates, including former coach Rex Ryan. ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news on Wednesday afternoon.
“A new coach in New York: Jets are hiring former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as their new head coach,” Schefter reported on X.
As the eighth coach the Jets have hired since 2000, Glenn is stepping into a franchise that has not only failed to win a Super Bowl but hasn’t even appeared in one since the 1969 season. Despite some successful runs, the team has struggled for consistency, and with Glenn’s appointment, New York hopes to turn the tide. This hiring marks the end of their head coach search, and the focus will now shift to filling assistant coaching positions.
In Detroit, Glenn managed a defense that performed well at times; however, the Lions have recently lost their top two coordinators and defensive line coach, facing significant attrition this offseason. The NFL world reacted swiftly to the Jets’ big news.

As a @nyjets fan, I have always been a supporter of this man. Childhood favorite; had a poster of him and Adrian Murrell on my wall. Wishing him and the team nothing but success. https://t.co/a1G8UBrQBo
