Newly appointed Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel is in the process of assembling his coaching staff and is looking to hire talent from the teams that recently exited the NFL playoffs. According to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, Los Angeles Rams assistant coach John Streicher is “expected” to leave the Rams to accept an assistant position with Vrabel and the Patriots. This news comes just days after Vrabel officially assumed his role as the head coach of the Patriots.
Reiss noted that, similar to how Bill Belichick relied on football research director Ernie Adams for game management, Vrabel had John Streicher in that capacity during their time with the Titans. Now, Streicher, an Ohio State alumnus like Vrabel, is anticipated to join him in New England after spending the 2024 season with the Rams. As the NFL season reaches its conclusion, there has been a flurry of coaching changes, with the Chicago Bears hiring the highly sought-after Ben Johnson on a busy Monday and the Indianapolis Colts securing Lou Amarunso, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals, as their new defensive coordinator.
The Rams’ playoff run ended after defeating the Minnesota Vikings, only to be eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles on a snowy Sunday afternoon. Consequently, they are now faced with the challenges that come with offseason attrition.
Mike Vrabel’s connection to both the Patriots and the Rams is historic, as he was a key member of the 2001 New England team that achieved a stunning victory in Super Bowl 36 against the legendary ‘Greatest Show on Turf’ Rams. This ongoing relationship continues to evolve, possibly drawing further interest from both sides.
