Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown is heading West. Hours after the Buckeyes defeated Notre Dame to clinch the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday night, ESPN’s Max Olson reported that Brown will transfer to Cal. Initially, Brown declared his intention to transfer from Ohio State after the 2024 season but chose to remain with the Buckeyes during their College Football Playoff journey.
Ranked as a four-star recruit in the 2022 class, Brown had limited playing time over his three seasons in Columbus. After redshirting in 2022, he served as Kyle McCord’s backup in 2023 before becoming Will Howard’s primary backup during the Buckeyes’ title-winning season in 2024. During his time at Ohio State, Brown completed 27 of 48 pass attempts for 331 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception, in addition to rushing for 37 yards and one touchdown on 30 attempts.
By transferring to Berkeley, Brown will have two years of eligibility left and is expected to compete with Ohio transfer CJ Harris for the starting quarterback position for the Bears in 2025. Following the announcement of his transfer on Tuesday morning, social media was abuzz with reactions.
I question his ability to throw the ball reliably, but he’s a battering ram and a good team guy. Good luck, champ https://t.co/mqUchweIL0

Devin lost the job to Kyle McCord in 2023 and stuck around. He was in a really tough spot in the Cotton Bowl. Will Howard showed up. Stuck around for the playoff. He leaves Columbus a champion, nothing but the best, kid. https://t.co/EbkXlNpiQH
