Caitlin Clark is a Kansas City Chiefs fan, and now everyone, including Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo, knows it. Clark joined Taylor Swift in a luxury suite at the Chiefs’ Divisional Round playoff game against the Houston Texans this past weekend. Seeing two major forces in one room was too much for Russo to handle, leading him to rant about Clark’s fandom. According to Russo, there’s no way Clark, who grew up in Des Moines, Iowa—the nearest city to the Chiefs—could genuinely be a Chiefs fan.
After his tirade on Monday’s SiriusXM Radio show, Russo continued on The Dan Patrick Show the next morning, expecting Patrick to agree with his frustration. “I’m Chief’d out, Dan. I’m Chief’d out. And now all of a sudden, Caitlin Clark is a Chiefs fan?” Russo exclaimed. “Let me get this straight: we watched Caitlin, a wonderful athlete, and I never saw her wear a Chiefs jersey or a Chiefs hat, nor did I see her father sporting any Chiefs gear. Now suddenly she’s a huge Chiefs fan? Oh, come on!”
Patrick quickly surprised Russo by telling him, “Caitlin Clark announced her fandom with the Chiefs years ago.” Russo responded with skepticism: “I didn’t know that. Did she? She’s a Chiefs fan? Does she know about Super Bowl I… or the Miami-Kansas City double overtime 27-24 game, one of the most famous in NFL history?”
The notion that Clark’s loyalty to the Chiefs hinges on Russo needing photographic proof of her father’s fandom is absurd. The NFL likely prioritizes young fans engaging with NFL Slimetime on Nickelodeon over those who cling to memories of Dolphins-Chiefs on Christmas Day in 1971. A few minutes later, Patrick informed Russo about a photo of Clark, “looks like she’s about eight years old, with her cousins in her Chiefs jersey.” This was presumably the photo shared by the Chiefs last year featuring a young Caitlin Clark.

“Would you like to issue an apology?” Patrick asked. “What is she, Hank Stram now?” Russo chuckled. “I guess. I shouldn’t be picking on Caitlin Clark. I’m Chief’d out.” Of course, Russo is Chief’d out because he’s not a Chiefs fan! But you know who isn’t? Lifelong Chiefs fans like Caitlin Clark.
