United States President Donald Trump has consistently opposed transgender women participating in women’s sports. Now that he has been sworn in as president, he is advancing plans to eliminate protections for transgender athletes. According to a report from the Associated Press, Trump is preparing to sign executive orders that will rollback existing safeguards for transgender individuals.
This decision aligns with his announcement on Sunday night, where he declared his intent to bar transgender women from competing in women’s sports. “We will get critical race theory and transgender insanity out of our schools and we will keep men out of women’s sports,” he stated during his rally.
The upcoming executive orders will also assert that the federal government recognizes only two sexes: male and female, effectively invalidating Transgender Day of Visibility. Notably, Trump has made similar declarations in the past. After securing the 2024 presidential election, he promised to take action against transgender athletes, stating, “With the stroke of my pen on day one, we are going to stop the transgender lunacy.” He further elaborated on his plans, saying he would sign executive orders to end “child sexual mutilation,” and ensure transgender individuals would not serve in the military or attend schools at any level, while maintaining that men would be excluded from women’s sports.
The legality of these executive orders is still a matter of contention, but it is clear that Trump is committed to following through on these promises.
