The Chicago Bears are searching for a new head coach after dismissing Matt Eberflus earlier this year, and reports indicate they are eyeing a former NFL superstar for the position. According to NFL insider Jay Glazer from Fox Sports, the Bears will be interviewing former NFL running back Eddie George for the coaching role tomorrow morning. George, who has been head coach at Tennessee State for the past four years, was named Coach of the Year for his conference this year and led his team to a co-championship, as noted by Glazer in a post on X, previously known as Twitter.
George, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1995 with the Ohio State Buckeyes, was drafted in the first round by the Houston Oilers, which later became the Tennessee Titans. During his illustrious playing career, he made the Pro Bowl four times and earned the title of NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1996. After transitioning from playing to coaching, he took over at Tennessee State, where he was named the Big South–OVC Coach of the Year while guiding the team to a conference co-championship.
While the Bears are considering other candidates, it is evident they are open to unconventional options in their coaching search. It remains to be seen if George will secure the position.
