Miami Dolphins star Tua Tagovailoa made it clear at the Polynesian Bowl that he has no intention of retiring from football anytime soon. In fact, it appears to be quite the opposite; Tagovailoa is willing to risk everything for the game.
During an interview with ESPN Honolulu at the 2024 Polynesian Bowl, Tua’s father revealed that his son expressed his deep passion for football, saying he would even “die on the field” for the sport. Joe Schad quoted Tagovailoa, citing his father’s words: “Dad, I love this game and I’ll die on the field for this game.”

Despite his unfortunate history with concussions, which have led to instances of head trauma requiring medical evaluation, Tagovailoa remains committed to continuing his career. Ill-advised as it may seem, only significant intervention would keep him from playing professional football. Nobody wants to witness a tragic incident on the field, and few wish to see anyone get hurt. Nevertheless, Tagovailoa is determined to keep playing, showing that retirement is far from his thoughts. Given the toll head injuries have taken on him, the Dolphins quarterback is preparing for another season in Miami.
The NFL community has reacted to the news, with opinions divided. One fan commented, “Seems like that means more to him than winning,” while another bluntly stated, “Then it’s time to move on from him. If he can’t protect himself and be available for his team then he’s no good to them.” A different fan expressed their enthusiasm, while another emphasized, “we all believed him.”
