Former NFL cornerback Fred Smoot has secured a new role in the upcoming football season. Dave Portnoy announced on X that Smoot will join Barstool Sports “starting next season” as part of their football coverage, although details about his specific role remain unclear. Big Cat expressed his enthusiasm, confirming that Smoot will be “in the office every Thursday.”

Smoot has gained popularity in recent years, frequently appearing in Barstool productions and becoming a “quote machine.” The former Minnesota Vikings and Washington player has featured in Pardon My Take and The Yak, notably making an impassioned appeal against pumpkins.

Additionally, Smoot addressed the notorious “Love Boat” incident during a December appearance on PMT, asserting that reports about the Minnesota Vikings’ boat party scandal are exaggerated. According to Smoot, the alleged event, which involved seventeen Vikings players and around 100 women, was blown out of proportion due to the wealth of those involved and the fact that they were caught. Consequently, both Smoot and his former teammate Bryant McKinnie were fined one game’s salary by the NFL.
A 2nd round pick by Washington in the 2001 NFL draft, Smoot played nine seasons in the league, participating in 129 games and accumulating 450 tackles. This news coincides with Portnoy’s announcement regarding the departure of Bussin’ With the Boys hosts Will Compton and Taylor Lewan from the company.
