On Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams will face the Philadelphia Eagles for a chance at the NFC Championship. Ahead of the game, Rams star Jared Verse provided the Eagles with some bulletin board material, which head coach Sean McVay supports. On Thursday, Verse expressed his feelings about the Eagles fans, stating, “I hate Eagles fans.” He reflected on a previous matchup between the two teams and mentioned how their presence genuinely upsets him.
“I hate Eagles fans,” Verse said in a conversation with the Los Angeles Times. “They’re so annoying. When I see that green and white I hate it. I actually get upset. Like I genuinely get hot. I didn’t even do nothing to ‘em. It was my first time playing. Oh, I hate Eagles fans.” Interestingly, Verse grew up in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, so one might assume he would have been an Eagles fan, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Now, he is likely to be viewed as public enemy number one when the Rams visit Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.
It’s generally unwise to alienate the team and fanbase you’re set to play, but McVay defended Verse’s remarks, stating he has “no problem” with the pregame trash talk. “He told his truth,” McVay told reporters on Friday when asked about Verse’s comments. “I’m riding with the Rams.” As McVay suggested, Verse simply articulated his feelings toward the Eagles’ fanbase, but will this come back to haunt him during the game?
The Rams head into the game with enough challenges, as the Eagles are currently favored by six points. Only time will reveal if Verse regrets his comments, but considering the Eagles’ passionate fanbase, he is likely to be met with a chorus of boos throughout the matchup.
